Meet Assistant Scoutmaster Bill Whealton

Muskogee District Scouter Bill Whealton is overseeing logistics for Gilwell Troop 1 as assistant scoutmaster for facilities. In this capacity, he oversees the Quartermasters Corps and the availability and preparation of all equipment, logistics, and training and program areas used during the course. He is also an active volunteer as an assistant scoutmaster for Troop 100 and crew adviser Crew 100 — both chartered by Summerville Baptist Church in Columbus. He also serves as food service adviser for the Chattahoochee Lodge and as Boy Scout District Roundtable commissioner.

Bill has more than 20 years of Scouting experience as both a youth and adult Scouter. An Eagle Scout, he his volunteer experience includes service at nearly all Scouting levels as a past den leader, Webelos den leader, assistant scoutmaster, scoutmaster, crew adviser and district committee member. The Trailblazer District previously recognized him as its Webelos Den Leader of the Year in 2003, and the Muskogee District as its Scouter of the Year in 2010. He is a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow.

He completed Chattahoochee Council Wood Badge Course SR-668 as a member of the Owl Patrol. He previously staffed the council’s Wood Badge Course SR-1078 in 2010 as a troop guide. He is a frequent staff member for the council’s National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) course, having served in the past as quartermaster, assistant scoutmaster for facilities, assistant scoutmaster for troop guides, and course director.

Bill works as a planner and purchaser in Panasonic Energy’s Material Division and is married to wife Lee. He is staffing S9-91-14 with his father, Ted, who is serving as an assistant quartermaster.
