Meet Assistant Quartermaster Jennifer Abbey

Serving as a member of the Gilwell Troop 1 Quartermasters Corps is Assistant Quartermaster Jennifer Abbey, who also serves the Muskogee District as an assistant district commissioner. At the unit level, she is the training chair for Troop 27, based in Columbus and chartered by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10558, and treasurer for Pack 399, chartered by Oswichee Baptist Church.

Jen has served as adult volunteer for more than a decade in a variety of capacities that include unit-level and district-level service. In addition to her current unit and district duties, which also include serving the district as a merit badge counselor and roundtable commissioner, she has served as a chartered organization representative, training committee member, and unit commissioner. Her volunteerism has led to several training and service awards, including the Arrowhead Honor Award and Unit Award of Excellence for Commissioners. She also holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees through the Commissioners College, and she is seeking her doctorate in 2014.

She originally attended Chattahoochee Council Wood Badge Course S9-91-12 in 2012 and was a member of the Owl Patrol. While this represents her first time staffing a Wood Badge course, Jen is a frequent trainer for district and council training events.

Jen is currently a student taking pre-med classes for nursing at Chattahoochee Valley Community College. She anticipates transferring to Southern Union Community College in the spring, where she will finish her nursing degree. She is married to Chuck Abbey, who is serving as a troop guide for S9-91-14. Together, they have two sons: Matthew and Christopher who are progressing on the Trail to Eagle as Scouts in Troop 27.
