Meet Course SPL Mark Scott

Yellow Jacket District Scouter Mark Scott will serve Course S9-91-14 as senior patrol leader of Gilwell Troop 1. Mark also serves as a unit commissioner as well as assistant scoutmaster of Troop 21, chartered by First United Methodist Church in LaGrange. As SPL for the course, Mark will serve as a link between Wood Badge staff members and patrols, keep the course director informed of the progress of patrols and participants, preside over Patrol Leaders' Council Meetings, and set expectations for how patrols and participants function and perform.

Mark joined Scouting as a Boy Scout in 1971, and later attended the 1973 National Boy Scout Jamboree. In addition to his four years as a Scout, he has served for nearly 20 years as an adult volunteer, and is a member of the Order of the Arrow. With a grown son who was a Scout, and one currently a Scout, Mark has seen his share of Scouting involvement. He is a two-time den leader for every Cub Scout level, has served as assistant scoutmaster for several troops, and has actively supported Scouts' religious activities as a faith trainer at both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts levels. Is is also frequently called upon to provide adult leader training.

Originally an Antelope from Chattahoochee Council Wood Badge Course SR-942 (2009), he served as a troop guide for the council’s most recent course (S9-91-12) in 2012 in addition to his current course responsibilities as S9-91-14 SPL.

Professionally, Mark is a pre-need counselor for Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in LaGrange. He and his wife Catherine have been married for more than 30 years and they have three children: Matthew, Jessica, and Michael, who is currently a member of Troop 21.
