As Wood Badge course director, Tom Lytle serves as scoutmaster of Gilwell Troop 1. Tom also serves Chattahoochee Council as its advancement chair, as well as assistant district commissioner in the Muskogee District. As course director, Tom is responsible for all areas of course operations, including staff selection and development, course content and delivery, and participant recruitment and matriculation.
Tom has accumulated more than 50 years in Scouting, which has included earning the rank of Eagle Scout and amassing more than 45 years of volunteer Scouting experience. His adult leader roles have included serving for 13 years as a troop scoutmaster, 16 years as an assistant district commissioner, 10 years as a district commissioner, and three years as council advancement chair. As a result of his service, he has received the Silver Beaver Award, District Award of Merit, Heroism Medal, Doctorate of Commissioner Science and various other training and service accolades. He is also a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow.
He attended Wood Badge course SE-273-11 in the Occoneechee Council (North Carolina) in 1981 and was a member of the Bobwhite Patrol. Since then, he has served in a variety of Chattahoochee Council Wood Badge staff positions, including assistant scribe (SR-828, 2008), head scribe (SR-942, 2009), assistant scoutmaster for program (SR-1078, 2010), and troop guide and backup course director (S9-91-12, 2012).
Tom is married to
Debbi Lytle, S9-91-14’s assistant scoutmaster for program, and together they have three children.
