Orientation gathers course participants, introduces staff

Course Director Tom Lytle outlines plans for the upcoming course.
Three-fourths of the 40 registered course participants gathered this morning at Camp Lumpkin to learn more of what Wood Badge Course S9-91-14 entails and what course staff have in store for them during the two course weekends March 7-9 and April 11-13. The orientation session also gave participants the opportunity to meet others attending the course and to familiarize themselves with how the course operates, the basics of the Wood Badge ticket, and how the two course weekends differ.

Major take-a-ways from the orientation, especially for those who were unable to attend, include:
Forms: all forms and fees should be turned in by Monday, Feb. 10. Forms include the Personal Resources Survey, BSA Annual Health and Medical Record (Parts A & B and Part C required), and Dietary and Physical Needs/Limitations Form. All forms are available for download from the Participant Info tab on the course website and should be emailed to s991woodbadge@gmail.com when complete. The 20 Questions form, also available for download from the website, should also be completed prior to the first course. Participants will bring this form with them to the first course weekend.

Uniforming: Participants should have full "Class A" uniform appropriate to their registered Scouting for the entire weekend. Two course T-shirts and a course hat will be provided upon arrival the first course weekend, and a course council strip patch will be sent to participants so they can sew on their uniforms in advance of the first weekend. Participants and staff will vary dress between "Class A" and "Class B," the latter consisting of a course T-shirt or other Scouting T-shirt in lieu of the official BSA uniform shirt.

Food: All food will be provided for both three-day, two-night weekends. The first weekend, food will be prepared and served by staff; the second weekend, participants will cook in the outdoors as patrols.

Arrival and Departure: Each weekend, participants should arrive at camp no later than 7:30 a.m. ET, and park and check in at the camp's Administrative Building. The option is available, with advanced notice to arrive and stay at camp the Thursday evening prior. If you wish to arrange this, please email s991woodbadge@gmail.com. While sleeping accommodations will be made available, participants staying at camp Thursday evening should eat before they arrive. Participants should plan to stay until the close of each course weekend around 5 p.m. ET on Sunday. Arriving late, leaving early, or coming and going during course weekends cannot be permitted.
